New Moon in Aries: What the world needs is people who have come alive

A new astrological year started yesterday, March 20th, with the spring equinox and the Sun moving into Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Today’s New Moon in Aries emphasizes the start of a new cycle: the Sun and the Moon are in the first degree of Aries, the most fiery spark of the degrees of the zodiac. Aries as the first fire sign represents the birth of spring and life in general, the big bang of consciousness entering the body, a warrior burning for their cause, a force to be reckoned with.

The New Moon’s Aries energy is emphasized by the ruling planet of Aries, Mars, squaring the New Moon from over in the zodiac’s curious communicator Gemini. Also otherwise, Mars is well connected on the chart of the New Moon. Speaking of connecting, strong messenger energy is also present, with Mercury conjuncting the New Moon. Networks of communication are being built and activated, the wires heating up, even though spring hasn't really even kicked off yet.

Mars is the only planet in the element of air, which means that from that point of view there is also pressure for it to communicate or otherwise act. Personally, I am very excited that in the past couple of days Mars has finally moved on from the degrees it was trudging through, back-and-forth, during it’s retrograde period of Sep 2022-Mar 2023 (including its pre- and post-retrograde shadows). So, we are really on the threshold of something new in so many ways.

Regarding being on the threshold of a new beginning, the majority of planets are either in the final or initial degreesof signs. In addition, the planets are all in collective and personally-oriented signs - where we can feel the transition from what has already been seen, to a fresh cycle. Of the slow planets, Pluto, Saturn and Neptune are anchor the energy in the collective, and do not let us forget the common good. However, specifically motivated by them, we get into a child-like, blue-eyed, enthusiastic and fresh process of creation that can specifically renew both the individual and the community, which are energetically intertwined whether we perceive it or not.

The pressure for transformation continues, which depending on your viewpoint, can either feel freeing or forceful. All the planets are bound within the quincunx of Pluto and Mars - the modern and traditional ruler of Scorpio, so we couldn’t get way from transformative spirit of the times even if we tried. Pluto's anchor in the final arc minutes of Capricorn is already slipping towards Aquarius - another huge new threshold. Pluto sextiles the New Moon in the first degree of the zodiac, as if to whisper, "just do it, I'll turbo boost you". At the same time, Pluto challenges the collective North Node and Venus in Taurus to make sure that any new departures in life are in line with your own true values. Also, Pluto challenges you to align the reality of your relationships with your Neptunian ideals, in which we were swimming with Venus conjunct Neptune in Pisces just a while ago.

Neptunian whispers are still going on, to the New Moon, Venus and Mars. In fitting idealistic nature, I choose to interpret this as the carrying over of the Pisces season’s undertone of connecting to higher realms. Even with Aries’ "me first" enthusiasm, success is better guaranteed when acting out of the purpose of serving the collective good. This boils the New Moon energies down to the old wisdom:

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
